When contacted about Dennis’ movement up the chart, WFDU(FM)’s station manager Carl J. Kraus expressed little surprise with the news:

“I’ve always known that Dennis was not only a fine broadcast talent but an extraordinary live performer. In fact, I had the pleasure of introducing him at the Turning Point in Piermont, New York. To watch him work the room with his magic harp and bodily gyrations, a key part of  Blues performance, was a thing of beauty and elegance. So, it’s really no surprise that his work has been recognized by his chart placement”.

Dennis Gruenling is the host of Blues & the Beat, spinning everything from the legends of Chicago-style blues like Muddy Waters, the jump blues styles of Joe Liggins, New Orleans blues of Fats Domino, and even some vocal blues and R&B from the likes of The Spiders. The contemporary masters who keep this music alive will also be featured regularly. Woven into the mix are the facts and history of this music, coming from years of study and a serious record-buying addiction.

Dennis has been playing harmonica on the East Coast for over 20 years, and has experience playing with some of the legends in the business like Pinetop Perkins, Jimmy Dawkins, Snooky Pryor, and Homesick James, as well as modern masters like Rod Piazza, Little Charlie & the Nightcats, Steve Guyger, and Rusty Zinn. He fronts his own band (Jump Time) as well as a band with guitarist/vocalist Doug Deming, which he often performs and records with. Dennis can also be seen as a guest artist with regional acts such as Dave Gross, Chris Vitarello, David Malachowski & The Woodstock All-Stars, V.D. King, and The Rockin' Daddies. In addition to all this playing, he also founded his own label, BackBender Records, and has been active in the local/regional blues scene starting events like “Harpin' For Hunger.”
Dennis has written and published articles for Real Blues Magazine and American Harmonica Newsletter and has taught harmonica at numerous harmonica conventions & workshops worldwide.
